Aventurine is a variety of quartz with mica which gives the stone a subtle shimmer.  It is most commonly green but it also forms in blue, red to reddish-brown, dusty purple, orange or peach, yellow, and silver grey. It is mostly translucent and often banded but an overabundance of an included mineral may render it opaque. 

Green aventurine is well known as a good luck stone.  It is used to attract abundance and prosperity.
